Old Habits Die– Never?

June 1, 2010

When I was in the shower last (it was recently!) I decided that the routine should be altered. Instead of washing my hair last, I would do it first. Not a spectacular change of pace, but I like to change things up no matter how small the change may seem. So I did the hair thing first and then the rest and then– washed my hair again at the end. It was only after I shut the water off that I realized that I’d done it twice. Believe me, I know this seems like a really lackluster story, but it was very interesting to me. See, I’ve been bathing all my life so the routine I set way back when, is hard-coded into my brain. It surpasses the reach of logic and short-term memory.I was really kind of creeped out that it was something that just happened, rather than something I did. It makes one wonder how often one is just on autopilot like that. How many things do you actively do and how many things just happen? Maybe it’s not an entirely bad thing though. If you can do mediocre things without thinking, that gives you a chance to think about something more interesting. That would be the very essence of multi-tasking, I suppose. Perhaps this is all really obvious stuff. Or perhaps not thinking about the things you don’t think about is automatic too.

Hmm. Well, here’s an unrelated doodle.

It’s been a bit since I drew my animal-people. ( I refuse to use the term ‘furries’)

    1. Great song (Junior Senior), and yes, please don’t call them Furries. I feel that they are better than furries, or at least what is considered mainstream furrydom. Anywho, I’ve actually had similar thoughts to you, mostly considering my placement of objects, then for the life of me not understanding why I put them there (example, cell phone in the microwave, and I wasn’t drunk!)
