Over-Observer Volume 1
Welcome to what may or may not be a series of entries about my observations of art and design!
The ‘mission statement’ of this blog (if you can claim there is one) is not just to show examples of my art and design work after all. Creative people take a little something from everything they see and a blog primarily about one’s art seems like the perfect place to share such observations.
My first subject is something I noticed some time ago about a very iconic, and very common logo. We’re all familiar with the hidden image in the FedEx logo right?

Look! It's an arrow!
But that’s old news. Today I want to point out something I noticed a while back about the iconic Conoco logo.

There’s no ‘hidden image’ to be found here but the interesting thing about this one is the type. The letters in the Conoco logo are all represented by just two shapes. Of course you have the three identical O’s.

Of course the C’s are the same, but check out the N.

Presto frigging change-o!
There you have it– Conoco’s corporate identity can be broken down into horseshoes and donuts. Pretty brilliant, in my opinion.

I have noticed before that the N in CONOCO was just a C turned sideways. Pretty crazy. I didn’t however see the arrow in FedEx and I use them like once a month!
Really weird coincidence — when I was in Springfield driving by a Conoco (probably right around the same day as this post), I noticed the same thing. Struck me that it’s stupid that I wouldn’t have noticed something like that by now.
This is what separates the slop from the top.
